Journey Across the Sea is an Aman voyage like no other: seven days from Bali to Moyo Island, a veritable Eden in the Flores Sea, combining three Amans — the clifftop Amankila in East Bali, the phinisi Amandira at sea, and the jungle camp of Amanwana on Moyo. The turquoise waters and pristine reefs of the Flores Sea hold some of Indonesia’s best diving and snorkelling; on land, Moyo’s hilly forests are crisscrossed by trails, home to protected deer, macaques and wild boar. This is the guide to chartering the Bali-to-Moyo journey aboard Amandira: the route, a sample seven-day itinerary, and how to book.
Three Amans, one voyage
The journey begins ashore at Amankila, the Aman resort on the cliffs of East Bali, then continues aboard Amandira — Aman’s 52-metre phinisi, ten guests, crew of thirteen — for the run east through the Flores Sea. It ends in the wilderness of Amanwana on Moyo Island, a tented jungle camp on a golden bay. Exclusivity is the point: Aman service on land and at sea, hidden beaches, distinct wildlife and world-class diving, with every detail tailored.
An Aman voyage like no other — on land and at sea.
Across the Flores Sea
From Amankila, Amandira sails past the Gili Islands and out across the Flores Sea, days spent on exclusive beach set-ups, snorkelling lively reefs and kayaking, dinner al fresco beneath the stars as the boat makes its way east. Approaching Moyo, you dive the steep wall of the Angel reefs, which descends into the abyss, and cruise into Teluk Saleh — a bay famed for its whale sharks.
Moyo Island & the whale sharks
At dawn in Teluk Saleh, Amandira visits the bagans — large traditional fishing platforms — where, with luck, you snorkel or dive with the majestic whale sharks that gather beneath them. Ashore on Moyo, excursions wind through lush jungle trails to the famed Mata Jitu waterfall, with its tiered turquoise pools; the island’s honey and cashews are a local specialty. Mornings at Amanwana belong to the water — a Hobie Cat, a kayak over the turtle-frequented floating platform — and dinners to the golden sands of Amanwana Bay, with your own chef and butler.
Aboard Amandira
For the days at sea, Amandira is a 52-metre phinisi for up to ten guests in five cabins, crewed by thirteen including two private chefs, a dive master and a spa therapist. Cabins are as spacious as an Aman suite; the foredeck is for sundowners and stargazing. The voyage can run Bali-to-Moyo or in reverse, and is curated on a bespoke basis around your interests.
When to go & how to charter
This journey can be booked throughout the year, subject to availability. It departs from Amankila, around a ninety-minute drive from Bali’s Denpasar airport; in reverse, you fly Bali to Sumbawa Besar (about two hours via Lombok) and transfer to Amanwana.
