Ikan Kayu is a hand-built wooden phinisi of 32 metres, based in Labuan Bajo, from where her operator runs tailored charters around Komodo National Park and the shores of east Sumbawa, including the deserted island of Gili Banta. She cruises at 7 knots with a top speed of 10, and carries a 5.5-metre speedboat tender with an 85-hp engine, paddleboards, a banana boat, a cinema set-up and free wifi; diving and music equipment come on request.
Her five cabins all have sea views, air-conditioning and their own bathrooms: a master and three doubles on the main deck, and a double on the upper deck. They take ten guests, twelve at most, looked after by a crew of nine. The chef plans the menu around each group and meals are served at a large outdoor table, and the crew arranges activities for children and, on request, surf itineraries.
She is chartered whole or shared by the cabin. The 2026 brochure prices a private charter at USD 3,900 a night for up to ten guests, with the eleventh and twelfth at USD 250 each a night and a three-night minimum; meals, soft drinks, transfers, fuel and a diving package of guide and tanks are included, while park fees of USD 30 per person a day, alcohol and dive-gear rental are extra. Her shared departures in 2026 start at USD 700 per person for three days and two nights.
