Dunia Baru is a 51-metre phinisi handcrafted from ulin ironwood and teak by the Konjo boatbuilders of South Sulawesi, to a design by Kasten Marine Design — built in 2014 and refitted in 2019. She carries 14 guests in seven cabins, including an owner’s suite, with a crew of 18. A Dunia Baru yacht charter cruises Komodo, the Banda Sea and Raja Ampat as a private charter, with an open kitchen where the chefs cook in full view, scuba diving with the yacht’s own equipment and dive professionals, and a locker of water toys.
Eleven metres in the beam, and single lengths of ulin running more than thirty-five metres: she is a big boat built the old way, and it shows in the deck space. Fourteen guests to a crew of eighteen is more than one crew member each — the reason she rarely feels full.
The open kitchen is the detail guests remember. The chefs work in view and the food is served alfresco on deck rather than carried out of a hatch. The toy locker runs to sea kayaks, paddleboards, a Sunfish sailing dinghy, water skis, jet skis and fishing gear, where local rules allow, and certified divers use her own equipment and wetsuits.
A charter includes all meals, soft drinks and bottled water, shore excursions on your itinerary, park permits at the seasonal home ports, tenders to and from shore, and an English-speaking cruise director with the full crew. Fifty nautical miles of cruising a day are included, and they pool across the voyage — a slow week and a long crossing balance each other out.
