ALEXA is a former cargo phinisi that, her owners say, sailed between Flores, Komodo, Sumbawa, Alor and Sulawesi for decades before she was launched in 2013 as a yacht with a single guest cabin. She is 31 metres long, 30 on deck, and her operator calls her the biggest yacht in the world catering for two passengers only. The conversion kept her traditional lines and paired aged teak with stainless steel and tinted glass; inside are antique art, silk rugs and primitive sculpture from the Indonesian islands.

The master cabin, with a queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom and a private balcony, shares the main deck with a living and dining room, a TV lounge and an open-air lounge. The upper deck carries an open-air dining area, sunbeds and a sleeping area under the stars; below are the galley and bar, a second dining area, a lounge and library, and five crew cabins.

Her crew includes a private chef whose speciality is seafood, a spa therapist the operator credits with a World Luxury Spa Award, a dive instructor and a cruise director; top-end dive gear and an underwater camera are carried. She is chartered only privately and all year, from Labuan Bajo through Komodo and, on relocation, to Sumbawa for its whale sharks, to Sumba and to Alor.
