Diving Guide
Raja Ampat is the undisputed epicentre of marine biodiversity on Earth. Located within the Coral Triangle, this remote archipelago in West Papua harbours more species of coral and fish than anywhere else on the planet. A single reef here contains more species than the entire Caribbean. The diving ranges from gentle coral gardens teeming with life to exhilarating current-swept pinnacles where sharks and mantas patrol. For the serious diver, Raja Ampat is the ultimate pilgrimage.
Home to the world record for fish species counted on a single dive — 374 species in 60 minutes. The reef drops off into blue water where sharks and trevally patrol, while the wall is carpeted in sea fans, soft corals, and clouds of anthias. An unforgettable dive at any skill level.
A sandy bottom cleaning station where reef manta rays arrive to be groomed by cleaner wrasse. Divers kneel on the sand and watch as mantas glide overhead, sometimes stacking three or four deep. Wobbegong sharks rest under table corals nearby.
A submerged seamount in the Dampier Strait known for big pelagic encounters. Strong currents sweep nutrients past the pinnacle, attracting oceanic manta rays, sharks, and large schools of fish. Advanced skills and good buoyancy are essential.
One of the most beautiful shallow reefs in Raja Ampat, featuring vast fields of pristine staghorn coral interspersed with anemone colonies hosting multiple clownfish species. The gentle slope and calm conditions make it perfect for beginners and snorkelers.
A narrow channel between Waigeo and Gam islands with a unique freshwater lens creating unusual lighting conditions. Underwater trees of soft corals grow from the walls, and the resident mandarin fish perform their sunset mating dance in the shallows.
A submerged ridge where reef mantas visit a cleaning station while divers watch from below. The ridge is covered in sea fans hosting pygmy seahorses, and wobbegong sharks rest in the crevices. Night dives reveal walking epaulette sharks.
